The Ogeechee River
Find interesting facts about our area!
The Ogeechee River arises in the Georgia Piedmont, but the Coastal Plain contribues to most of its flow. It is a "Black Water" river, carrying a high load of dissolved organic carbon that imparts a "Tea" color to the water. Unlike other black water rivers, the Ogeechee has a high pH (near 7.0) due to a large input of carbonate-rich water from Magnolia Springs. Flow in the Ogeechee River averages 100 cubic meters per second and the drainage basin covers 7,000 square kilometers.
